| Evaporate. This work was exhibited in SALA Moving Image Project '05 at Artspace, Adelaide Festival Centre. The top images are canvas prints from Holgaroids (I & III) and a cross-processed transparency, layered with data from the Bureau of Meteorology from the day of the shoot. The other images are stills from a moving image work. The piece runs for 5min. It is a montage of two timelapses using stills. The landscape was captured at 1 frame every 3 seconds from sunrise to sunset at a solar eveporation salt facility. The pumphouse in the frame has since been demolished to make way for upgraded technology. The ice was captured melting in a studio at 1 frame every 3 seconds. Many thanks to David Ngo for assisting with the edit of this work. (artist's statement) : This work reflects my interst in the relationship between the potential solar energy that falls on the tinted windows at Artspace, and the material content of the glass itself. Soda Ash, which is used in the manufacture of glass, is a product of the salt filelds projected on the window. This landscape has been adapted to industrially exploit the activity of solar energy, to produce soda ash as a consequence of the solar evaporation of sea-water. |
